SoIBio (Sociedad Iberoamericana de Bioinformatica / Iberoamerican Society for Bioinformatics) is a scientific and professional society of international rank, founded in 2009 in Mexico, which includes a large region with 22 countries, twenty in America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Venezuela; plus Spain and Portugal in Europe (associated with Latin America by cultural and social links and by formal cooperation). The Society was founded following the previous work and experience of the RIB (Ibero-American Bioinformatics Network) which was, from 2002 to 2008, a joint collaboration project of several Ibero-American research groups working in the new field of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. SoIBio is a member of ISCB (The International Society for Computational Biology) as an active Latin American affiliated group. SoIBio is also a member of GOBLET (Global Organisation for Bioinformatics Learning, Education and Training).
